21 Sept Drama Workshop
Caoimhe Mulcahy facilitated a workshop for students interested in participating in the National TY Drama Festival.

23 Sept Enterprise Showcase
TY1 & 4 attended this showcase organised by the Local Employment Office (LEO). Teresa Mulvihill Smart Marketing is the schools link person.

Law Education for Schools

All students were given a unique insight
into law as seen through the eyes of a
practising barrister. Law Education for Schools
places emphasis on teaching the student the
skill of advocacy. All groups staged a Mock
Trial in Ennis Court House.

6 - 9 Oct 2015 Horizon Adventure Centre,
Kilavalley, Westport, Co. Westport

Students took part in a multi-activity
programme including surfing, kayaking,climbing
Croagh Patrick, zipwire,Jacobs ladder, high
ropes, archery and various team building tasks.

13 Oct Priming the Canon:Me Michael

This series commissions artists to write monologues based on classic Irish texts, in order to introduce a younger audience to these famous works. "Me,Michael" is an energetic and engaging retelling of Brian Friel's award winning Dancing at Lughnasa through the character of a young boy, Michael Evans. All TYs attended the performance in Glór.

15 Oct UL Open Day

All TY students attended this Open Day. They had the opportunity to attend introductory lectures, visit exhibition stands and tour the campus.

<16 Oct Visit to Ennis Abbey
TY1&2 students had the opportunity to visit Ennis Abbey which has been the town's focal point since the 13th Century. The tour outlined that the Abbey has been a Franciscan household,a royal seat of the Kings of Thomond,a courthouse and jail and more recently a Church of Ireland parish church.

Oct 2015 School Bank

A school bank is now be run by TY3 students
on behalf of the Bank of Ireland who
interviewed applicants for positions and provided

All Ireland TY Drama Festival 2016
Our school has submitted 3 entries for the preliminary round which takes place in the Briery Gap, Macroom in early February.

50 TYs are involved in all aspects and disciplines of drama and stage performance, ie organising, acting, lighting, set design, costuming, make-up and most of all team work.

Well done to Isabel Gallagher and Nessa Mulcahy who have both been selected to participate in UCC's School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Science work experience programme.

21 Oct Comhairle na nÓg
8 TY students represented the school at this local showcasing event in the Old Ground Hotel. The main aimo f the event is to give young people the opportunity to discuss and debate matters of relevance to them in their community.

2 Nov ReelLIFE Science shortlist
This is a novel science video competition which aims to promote science in an engaging way.

Best of Ger Carey Live" in Glór

Formerly known as "Psycho Spaghetti" this one-man show attempts to answer the age-old question: Just what is going on inside the teenage brain? All of our TY students attended.

Transition Year Physics Experience TCD
Well done to Roisin McAteer and Muireann McAuliffe on being selected to participate in TYPE.

Pathology Dept Open Day (morning)
This event took place in conjunction with the "Labs are Vital" initiative organised through the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science in partnership with Abbot Diagnostics, and as part of National Pathology Week, Ireland.
Students were shown around the various Laboratory disciplines, namely Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Histology and Microbiology, and got an insight into the function and role of these areas. Laura McNamara and Rachel Hayes attended.

Press Pass

Our 4 TY classes are again participating in the Press Pass initiative.
In 2012 NewsBrands Ireland devised a new Newspapers in Education (NiE) initiative aimed at Transition Year students and designed to support its own, and the Government's, youth literacy objectives by getting more students reading newspapers.

23 - 28 Nov 2015 School Musical

TY students, together with all 4th years
take part in our annual musical. This year's
show is Les Miserables.

Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal
Our TY 2 & 3 students again organised and co-ordinated the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Almost 300 boxes were organised for collection.

14 - 18 Dec 2015 Community Work

The purpose of this placement is to give
students an insight into the service providers
in the voluntary and community sector.

13,14 21 & 22 Jan 2016 Cardiac First
Responders Course

The purpose of this course is to enable
students to assess a collapsed casualty,
perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, how
to recognise the signs of choking and how to
recognise the signs of a heart attack and
stroke and to be able to provide treatment.

This workshop offers students a first hand
insight into life as a professional songwriter
/ musician and an overview of song writing and
the music business. Students write, perform and
record their own songs during a two day
workshop. Students will receive a CD with their
song(s), along with a “Songschool Certificate
of Participation".

11 - 15 April 2016 Work Placement

5 April 2016 (TY1 & TY2)19 April 2016 (TY3 &
4) Geographic Investigation Burren

As part of Geography, students will undertake a
study of Coastal Erosion. The emphasis is on
students doing practical work themselves, using
equipment and collecting data. The data
collected is analysed to ensure full
understanding under the guidance of Colin
Bunce from the Burren

10 May 2016 Visit to Criminal Courts of

TY classes will visit the Criminal Courts of
Justice.This visit is organised by the Courts
Service. A Barrister will stage a Mock Trial
for the class. Students will have the
opportunity to attend various court cases in
the complex.

The purpose of this night is to celebrate
students' efforts and achievements.There is a
display of students work completed throughout
the year. A number of students speak on their
experience of TY.This is followed by a
presentation of various certificates of
participation and achievement.
