Fair Trade

Coláiste Muire is now a Fair Trade school. Each year prior to Christmas the Fair Trade shop is open at lunchtime and run by Transition Year students. The local Fair Trade representative Ms. Mairead Sheedy is a regular visitor to our school.

In keeping with the motto “Fair Trade guarantees a better deal for Third World producers” students are encouraged to think of the less well off in the world and to do something practical to help.

Last year one of our Transition Year classes showcased their YSI project , ‘The Fair Necessities’ in the RDS.

As a result of her involvement with Fair Trade while at school one of our past pupils Sinead Heavey, went on to study “International Development and Food Policy” in UCC. Our Transition Year students assisted with fundraising for Sinead,’s recent visit to Kenya.
