Monday May 13 in the Danlann. A trophy in memory of Mrs Brid
Liddy is presented each year to the best speaker.
ATHLETICS

Colaiste students who took part in the North Munster Track and
Field competition on Tuesday May 7 and Thursday May 9 have
qualified for the Munster finals of the competition to be held in
Cork next Saturday. Well done to all!
LCA Leisure and Recreation

LCA 1 students had a successful trip to the Burren Outdoor
Centre where they had the opportunity to do hillwalking,
caving,rock climbing and kayaking. The students also enjoyed
their visit to Clare Equestrian Centre where they went horse
riding.
Féile na hInse - Comhghairdeas!

Comhghairdeas to Coláiste students who participated in Féile na hInse this year. Placed first in their group competitions were the Grúpa Ceoil, the Scoraíocht and the Grúpa Amhránaíochta.Winners took part in the Féile ceolchoirm in Cois na hAbhna on Saturday night.
Cadette Volleyball All Ireland Champions

Colaiste cadette volleyball team won the All Ireland final last Thursday defeating Mercy College Coolock in the final which was held in UCD.Colaiste senior team won the All Ireland in December! Congratulations to all on a historic double!

Congratulations to the Coláiste Athletics team who took part in the final of the All Ireland schools competition in Jordanstown. The minor team finished in seventh place . Muireann O Shea finished 28 in her race. Congratulations to all!

MISSION WEEK

Mission week this October was a huge success. Classes took part in
lunchtime concerts, baked and enjoyed lunchtime buzz club during
the week of fundraising for the missions. The amount raised will be
available after the mid term break.

Transition Year students took part in a Public Access to Law
Programme on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 of September.The
course was facilitated by a barrister and gave the students a
valuable insight into the Law in Ireland.

GOLD MEDAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

Congratulations to Doireann Hennessy who won a gold medal at
the Irish Junior Science Olympiad at the weekend. Doireann will
represent Ireland in the international finals in Durban South
Africa in December. Congratulations also to Muireann o'Shea and
Eve Quinn who were finalists also.
MISSION WEEK

Mission week was a great success this year. It ended on Friday 27
as is traditional with the Leaving Cert. concert. A final figure of

TY TRIP TO OUTDOOR PURSUITS CENTRE DELPHI

Transition year students travelled to Delphi Outdoor centre in
Leenane on Tuesday October 18 for three days of outdoor pursuits
and team building. They had the opportunity to take part in a
wide range of outdoor activities which helped to foster a team
spirit among the group.
TY CARDIAC RESPONDER COURSE

Transition year students took part in a Cardiac Responder course
on Wednesday October 5 and Friday October 7. Among other useful
skills students were trained in the use of a defibrillator.
RTE LYRIC FM OUTREACH PROGRAMME

Colaiste has been chosen again this year to take part in an RTE
outreach programme. A mobile radio studio will visit Colaiste and
TY students will have the opportunity to prepare,
script, present and produce their own programmes with help from
RTE presenters.

Transition year students will take part in a public access to law
programme on Tuesday September 20. The course will be

JUNIOR CERT RESULTS

TRANSITION YEAR 2 YSI SUCCESS

Congratulations and very well done to our TY 2 students! Their
project C THE BRIGHT SIDE which celebrated the life of Ciara Conroy
won the Physical Health category at the YSI showcase in Citywest on
Thursday May 12. In addition they were selected as this year's
winner of the fundraising challenge.
TY FASHION SHOW

The TY Fashion Show held in memory of Ciara Conroy in aid of
CanTeen, a teenage cancer support group, was a wonderful
occasion. Students and staff took part in the lively show. Among
those who attended were Ciara's
parents and grandparents. Ciara's cousin who spoke on behalf of
the family thanked all those who helped put the show together. The
Fashion Show raised 10,000 euro for CanTeen.
150 YEARS CELEBRATION MASS

A mass to celebrate Colaiste 150 years was held in the cathedral
on March 16. Fr Jerry Carey was the celebrant and the school choir
added greatly to the ceremony. The whole school attended. Thanks
to all who made this a very special ceremony.

Anything Goes

Despite the very cold weather the school Musical “Anything Goes”
played to a packed Danlann. The performances were lively and
entertaining and a credit to all concerned.
Transition Year Work Experience

TY students were on work placement from Monday December 13
to Friday December 17. Christmas tests for fourth years take
place this week from Monday December 20 to Wednesday
December 22.
INTRODUCTION TO SECOND LEVEL

Primary school students from 6 class enjoyed the opportunity
over the last few weeks of spending a full day in Colaiste. They
sat in on regular classes and had classes in Science, French and
German. They were given some information on secondary school
life in an effort to ease the transition from primary to post
primary school.

Japan-Europe HighSchool Student Exchange Programme 2010

Well done to Deborah O'Reilly,4th year student who has been selected to participate in the "short programme" which will take place from 20th June to 25th July.
As a participant Deborah will attend Japanese high school classes,tour in Japanese provinces and stay in Japanese ordinary households.
Transition Year Drama Festival

Congratulations to our Transition Year class who won two awards at the All Ireland Finals of the TY Drama Festival in the Briery Gap Macroom on Saturday 27th February with their play, "An Triail"
Our students won the "Best Irish Language Award" and a "Best Set Award" for the laundry set.
National Concert Hall Date for Coláiste Muire Orchestra

Lyric FM Outreach &Education Programme

This programme is le by Gail Henry, Producer at RTE Lyric FM. The project involves making classical music based on radio progammes.
A mobile radio studio was brought to Coláiste Muire on 1 December where the fundamental aspects of radio programme making were discussed.
Transition Year students prepared, scripted, presented and produced their own programmes.
Introduction to Second Level

This successful pilot programme was run again for sixth class students. Students from several primary schools including Holy Family, Knockanean and Clarecastle schools had an opportunity to attend various classes and sample a typical day in Colaiste before the mid term break.A further series of such days were offered after Open Night.
TY visit the Four Courts

Transition Year students visited the Four Courts recently. The visit was organised by the Courts Service. A barrister explained the workings of the Circuit Court, the Central Criminal Court and the High Court to students. Students had an opportunity to attend a court sitting with Justice Paul Carney.

Mission Week proved a huge success this year with
each class performing in a lunchtime concert. . Cake sales, a No Uniform Day, and other fun events were also held throughtout the week. Many thanks to the Religion Department who pulled out all the stops to make the week so worthwhile.

On Thursday 17 September we welcomed Minister O'Keeffe and Sharon Shannon to our school.
The purpose of the visit was to mark Sharon Shannon's donation of a CD of traditional music and songbook which the Department will distribute to every school.

Award of Green Flag Ceremony

Coláiste Muire was awarded a Green Flag at an official ceremony in the school on Friday 8th May. Minister for the Environment, John Gormely T.D.was in attendance.
The school is the first post-primary school in Ennis to be awarded Green School status.

Cork Choral Festival

Second Year Letter Writing Competition

Congratulations to Alanna Wurm B6 and Mary Ellen Nagle B3 who wrote prize winning letters to author John Boyne in a second year letter writing competition.The prize was a ticket each for a reading by John Boyne in the Ennis Bookclub Festival. John Boyne wrote the widely acclaimed “The Boy in Striped Pyjamas”.

First Place YSI Competition

Congratulations to our Transition Year students and their teacher Ms Finola Howard on being awarded first prize in the National Final of the Young Social Innovators competition for their project on bullying.Over 6,ooo students and more than 400 schools took part in the competition.
