Each year we endeavour to include a visit to Industry as an optional extra in our TY programme. In the past we have visited Roche Ireland Clarecastle and Vistakon Limerick.
For the past two years we have visited LM Ericsson’s Software Development Campus in Athlone. This visit introduced our students to the wonderful opportunities that continue to exist in the Technology and Engineering sector. It also supports the uptake of STEM subjects following TY.
In 2016/17 we visited LM Ericsson, Vistakon and Zimmer Biomet .
A visit to Vistakon took place on Wednesday 8 March 2017 as part of Engineers Week.
The purpose of the visit to the plant was to showcase the exciting and diverse career opportunities that the engineering profession has to offer. As a long-established multi-national in the mid-west, Vistakon works with local schools on an ongoing basis to foster upcoming talent and inspire the engineers of the future.
Students toured the plant, met with some of the engineering team and learned more about their day-to-day working lives.
They also worked on 5 interactive activities under the guidance of a team of Engineers.
